Where the iOS app stands, and how to enable AutoFill if you have a build.
Not publicly released yet
The iOS app — including Face ID / Touch ID unlock and a system AutoFill provider — is built, but it isn't distributed publicly, because iOS apps can only be installed through the App Store or a signed developer build. Track it on the iOS status page.
In the meantime, the web vault works in Safari on iOS like any other website.
Turn on AutoFill#
Unlike Android, iOS autofill is switched on from the system Settings app rather than from inside KeepInVault. These steps apply once you have a build installed.
- 1
Open the AutoFill setting
In iOS Settings, it's General → AutoFill & Passwords on iOS 18 and newer, and Passwords → AutoFill Passwords on iOS 17 and earlier. - 2
Enable KeepInVault
Turn on AutoFill and tick KeepInVault in the list of providers. - 3
Turn off iCloud Passwords
Untick Passwords (Apple's own) in the same list, unless you deliberately want both offered. See Autofill in other apps. - 4
Open KeepInVault once
Launch the app and let your vault load. The AutoFill extension reads a local copy of your logins that the main app writes — until you've opened the app at least once, it has nothing to offer.
Open the app after adding logins
iOS runs the AutoFill extension in its own process, which can't reach the network or your encryption key on its own. It fills from a snapshot the main app saves whenever your vault list loads. A login you added on another device won't be offered on this phone until you next open KeepInVault here.
What it fills#
- Usernames and passwords in any app or website. Every fill asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode first — there's no path that fills without confirming it's you.
- Logins are matched to the app or site you're on. If nothing matches, KeepInVault shows your full list rather than an empty screen, so you can still pick manually.
Not on iOS yet
The iOS extension fills passwords only — it doesn't offer passkeys, and iOS won't prompt to save a new login into KeepInVault the way the Android version does. Add new logins in the app itself.
Why there's no in-app toggle on iOS
iOS never tells an app whether it's currently an active AutoFill provider, so the app can't show an On/Off status the way the Android version does — it can only point you at the Settings screen.
