Terms of Service
Last updated: August 7, 2026
1. Agreement to these terms
By creating an account, installing the KeepInVault browser extension, or otherwise using KeepInVault (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. If we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email.
2. What the Service is
KeepInVault is a zero-knowledge password manager: a web app, browser extension, and mobile app that store, autofill, and let you share encrypted logins, cards, secure notes, and TOTP codes. Every item is encrypted on your device before it's sent to us — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what we can and can't see.
3. Your account and master password
You're responsible for keeping your master password secret and for the security of any device where your vault is unlocked. Because KeepInVault is zero-knowledge, we never receive your master password and cannot reset it on your behalf. At signup you're given a one-time recovery key — store it somewhere safe, since losing both your master password and your recovery key means your vault cannot be recovered, by us or anyone else.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
4. Free and Pro plans
The Free plan includes unlimited vault items, built-in TOTP codes, and password-health checks, synced to one device. Pro adds unlimited device sync, secure sharing with expiry and PIN protection, team vaults, and AI-powered password-health insights, billed monthly through our payment processor, Stripe.
You can cancel Pro at any time; your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, after which your account moves to Free. Cancelling or downgrading never deletes your vault data — anything over a Free-tier limit simply becomes read-only until you're back on Pro or bring it within the limit.
5. Referral rewards
If three or more people you've referred are simultaneously active on a paid plan, your account gets free Pro access. This is re-evaluated continuously, not a one-time unlock — if enough of your referrals lapse, the free access is removed until the condition is met again.
6. Team and organization vaults
Vault owners and admins can invite members to a shared team vault and assign view, edit, or manage access, and can revoke that access at any time. If you join someone else's team vault, items stored there are managed by the vault's owners and admins, not solely by you.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to store or share credentials for unlawful purposes
- Share credentials or vault items belonging to someone else without their authorization
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract server-side keys or other users' data
- Use the extension's autofill, or the API, to run automated credential-stuffing or brute-force attacks
- Create accounts under false identities, or abuse referrals or the Free plan across multiple accounts
8. Availability and changes to the Service
We aim to keep KeepInVault available and reliable, but the Service is provided "as is," without uptime guarantees. We may add, change, or remove features over time; where a change materially reduces what a paid plan offers, we'll give notice in advance.
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate the acceptable-use terms above. You can stop using the Service at any time; to have your account and data deleted, see our Privacy Policy.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, KeepInVault is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service — including, given our zero-knowledge design, loss of access to a vault after losing your master password and recovery key.
