Create your account
Sign up, save your recovery code, and verify your email.
Your account is created on the web. The extension, the mobile app, and the CLI all sign in to that same account, so do this first.
- 1
Create the account
Go to Sign up and enter your email and a master password. Longer is better — a passphrase of a few words beats a short, complicated string. - 2
Save your recovery code
KeepInVault shows a recovery code immediately after signup. Write it down or print it, and keep it somewhere physically safe. It's shown once and never again. - 3
Verify your email
Open the link KeepInVault emails you. Until you do, the extension and mobile app refuse to sign in — they offer a "resend" button on that screen instead. - 4
Log in
Sign in at Log in. You'll land in your vault.
Your master password can't be reset
It never leaves your device — it derives the key that encrypts everything, and the server only ever stores ciphertext. That means nobody at KeepInVault can reset it, read your vault, or recover it for you. Your recovery code is the only other way back in, which is why saving it matters as much as the password itself.
If you forget your master password#
Use your recovery code on the forgot password page. Without it, the vault can't be decrypted by anyone — that's the trade-off that makes the encryption meaningful rather than decorative.
